AGENCY PROFILE

FOCUS is a community-based non-profit agency serving the needs of Chugiak and Eagle River families with early intervention/infant learning and developmental disabilities services since 1978. The agency incorporated in 1987 and is governed by a Board of Directors of community volunteers. The majority of the board members have been or are consumers of FOCUS services.

In Eagle River/Chugiak and Cordova FOCUS provides family-centered early intervention/infant learning services for children from birth to three years of age who experience a delay or a disability. FOCUS provides a range of supports for individuals who experience developmental disabilities and their families including: care coordination, intensive active treatment, family residential habilitation (foster care), day habilitation, and hourly and daily respite care. The agency offers Short Term Assistance and Referral (STAR) or family support and assists in accessing core and individualized services and our annual summer program. FOCUS became a child placement agency in FY05.

The agency operates a $2,600,000 budget from a combination of grants through the Office of Children's Services and the Division of Senior and Disability Services (both within the Department of Health and Social Services), fee for services through Medicaid, private grants and third party revenue.
