What is Positive Behavior Support?

Positive Behavior Support (PBS) uses well established behavioral principles to help understand why behaviors are occurring and to teach a child new skills to replace a child's inappropriate behavior.  Promoting the social/emotional development of children with developmental delays or disabilities is part of the PBS process. PBS can help to improve a child’s ability to communicate, have positive social relationships and  move towards independence. Often the environment around the child can be proactively modified to help prevent challenging or inappropriate behaviors and to encourage more appropriate behaviors.
