After School Program
FOCUS offers an After School Program in Eagle River for middle and high school students, as well as participants of the ACE/ACT Program. The FOCUS After School Program provides students a caring and supportive environment where they can develop friendships, work on homework, and explore their community through fun activities.
Our program consists of a close-knit group of approximately 13 participants, and nine staff members ranging in age from 12 to 24 years old. Our Program schedule is designed by a certified Recreational Therapist who creates a great balance of relaxing, social time, and fun outdoor pursuits.
Our Program follows the Anchorage School District calendar and meets every school day from 2:00 – 6:00 pm. Students typically arrive by bus from school and settle in for a snack and social time with friends.
After, the group goes out into the local community for activities such as Taekwondo, bowling, swimming, yoga, arts and crafts, sledding, and more! The group returns to FOCUS by 5 pm to allow time to hang out together while waiting for rides home. This is a great chance for art, music, games, puzzles, and just having fun together! (And, yes, there’s even some time for homework!)
An expanded schedule is offered during winter school breaks and in-service days to provide added support to families. Transportation from school to the program location can be arranged with the school district, and transportation home from the program can also be arranged as well if needed!
Most participants of the program receive funding through Medicaid Waiver or Grants services.
FOCUS prides itself on seeking creative and energetic staff to match the various needs and personalities of the participants, and we would love to meet your student!
